This will enable us to keep money for future upkeep of our Hope Lodge room. Motion passed. The trustees of the account will be the IPDG, DG, VDG and Cabinet Treasurer.
Lion Peggy White gave the report on the Windmill, the District newsletter. She needs more advertising, articles and pictures It was decided that the Tail twister money from today would go to the Texas Lions Camp and the Lions World Services for the Blind.
Lion Dan Warrick reminded us that we will be voting at the District Convention on adding the position of 2nd Vice District Governor.
On behalf of PDG Tom White who was at the Hall of Fame meeting, Lion Peggy White gave the Region 2 report. Zone 2A is 100% in giving to the Hope Lodge project. Clubs from Zone 2B have all given except Olton and Matador who are undecided at this time, and Lockney which is helping the town of Lockney since the High School just burned to the ground.
Lion Raleigh reported that Zone 2A was doing great. Membership is down but helping people is extremely important and the results from doing this will be rewarded. He then read a letter about the Cody Fields fundraiser. He also told us about the struggles Lion Don Wellendorf is having with leukemia. We had a moment of silence for Don.
DG Jene told the story of the young man caught in an elevator during the 1970 Lubbock tornado. When he finally got out, a Lion was there with a sandwich and drink and that young man never forgot. He is now a Lion today. Small things we do today can touch lives tomorrow.
Lion Peggy Vernon reported on Zone 3B. They have a +13 in membership in her zone. All but the Post club are active in their communities.
Contest chairman John Stewart reported that of the 54 clubs, 13 are participating in the contest. At this time in large clubs, Lubbock South Plains is in the lead.

The five attending members of the Tech Raiders club were recognized. They are a wonderful, active club and members work at the Ronald McDonald house.
DG Jene reminded us of the District 2-T2 Convention, April 17 & 18 in Snyder, Texas. They have new hotels and it will be great to stay there. Some of the convention items include a chuck wagon breakfast, ladies activities and International Director Dr. Ott from Pennsylvania coming to speak. Please send the names of any deceased lions from your club to Lion Peggy Vernon for remembrance at the Necrology service. Friday night will be the Queen’s Contest. Saturday will be the Cabinet meeting, Necrology, voting, and the Governor’s Banquet. PDG’s may wear their white jackets. PDG Mac McCowan is planning to be in attendance. We will also have a silent auction. The Convention will be a great time and we should all plan to be in attendance.
VDG Fredda Buckner handed out surveys asking for volunteers for the different cabinet and committee positions.
Lion Peggy White reported on the Peace Poster Contest. Our district winner was Naomi Sweet from Evans Middle School. All clubs in the district may participate with the correct entry information and Lion Peggy will be glad to help anyone who wants to start a Peace Poster contest in their town. It was suggested that we have the winning poster at the convention. Lion Jim Petty reminded us that all roads lead to Snyder – for the District Convention – and to get registered now.
Lion Shirley Ward reported that Girlstown is alive and well! They are heavy into the Livestock Show, they had a grand champion, won a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in UIL, participated in the Fall Harvest Festival, and in December had a wonderful Christmas party.
PDG Gary Linker said that no recent disasters have been funded from LCIF but sending money is always welcome to prepare us for a time when we will need it.
PDG Terrell Thompson reported that the Campaign SightFirst II goal was achieved after reaching the $200 million in money and pledges. If your club has made a pledge, please fulfill that commitment. Many clubs have asked for grants. New Orleans is being helped with a rebuilding grant of 7.5 million from K. Bearing. A lot of good things are happening. The Lockney School district applied for funds but the State Lions cannot give them money because the burning of the school was not a natural disaster. It was suggested that we see if we have money left from last year’s surplus to give to Lockney.
Lion Raleigh Hudzietz moved, seconded by PDG Tom White, that District 2-T2 send $1000 to Lockney High School on behalf of the Lions of District 2-T2. Motion passed. DG Jene will go to Lockney to present the check. This will be funded immediately.

PDG Carmon McCain, our technology czar, asked us to give him any information we would like on the District website – 2t2.org. Our website has much information, including forms, the newsletter, minutes, and other pertinent data.
After a short break, we recognized Mr. Greg Blankenship with Taco Villa who donated $3000 to the scholarships for the Opportunities for Youth.
PDG Duane Howell gave the scholarship report. The money is slow in coming in for the scholarships. So far, there is $329 for Diabetes, $329 for Drug Awareness and $319 for Outstanding Youth. There are still 6 scholarships which have not been redeemed. PDG Duane can give the student an enrollment endorsement to give to the college for the student to receive their money.
Lion Peggy Vernon has State and District pins for sale. Contact her if your club needs more pins.
Lion Jean Anne Stratton gave a report of the Lions World Services for the Blind. Nine clubs in District 2-T2 have give to LWSB this year.
Lion Helen Sampson, Texas Lions Camp Director, had set a table up showing the camp. We sent over 100 children to the camp from 10 clubs. Many clubs are getting re-involved! One way to support the camp is with a TLC license plate. She has information on getting these and much of the money goes to the camp. Roby Lions Club sent 2 boys with sight problems. They were sponsored by Lion Dalvin Alexander. Lion Helen says to “find a camper, send a camper and let’s keep the camp going.” Director Lion Ted Boyd encouraged everyone to become a Century Club member. If every Lion in the state of Texas would give $100 per year, the camp would be self sufficient.
Lion Jim Stratton, Leader Dog chairman, reported that they were giving 70 pins to every club that sent $70.
CC Bernie Gradel gave the State Convention report. The convention will be in Lubbock, Texas on June 4-6, 2009. He encouraged everyone to preregister early. PDG Gary Linker is taking money. International President Al Brandel will be our guest speaker. CC Bernie showed a video narrated by PDG Terrell Thompson about “West Texas – the best part of the world.” It was a fabulous video, well presented and certainly completely accurate.

Letters of nomination were received from Roby Lions Club nominating VDG Fredda Buckner for District Governor and from Roby Lions Club nominating Lion Dalvin Alexander for Lions Camp Director.
We then had a report from Mikell Bollinger concerning the District project, the Hope Lodge. This will be for people outside the Lubbock area who will be coming here to receive cancer treatments. Patients can stay free while taking chemo and radiation. Over a million people live in the area of Texas and New Mexico that would be affected by this lodge. The Lions are giving the biggest amount from a civic organization. In addition, patients from Ronald McDonald House can receive training, support groups and transportation from the Hope Lodge. The architects were very pleased with the location. The main purpose is to provide hope by providing the emotional, physical and financial needs of cancer patients. The overall cost to start is $10 million. You can also give tribute gifts.
Lion Don Eversole gave the Hearing Bank report stating that they have purchased 6 hearing aids at a cost of $3000 to give people in need. They need 3 Region directors.

PDGs present were Max von Roeder, Charles Shannon, Marshall Cooper, Tom White, Terrell Thompson, Bernie Gradel, Carmon McCain, Jere Smith, Joe Hargrove, Arlee Jackson, Gary Linker, Paul Ellis and Jerry Marshall. Several other Lions were also in attendance.
DG Jene introduced IPDG Terrell Thompson, who then gave a final report of his year. IPDG Terrell gave a financial report after expressing his thanks for being governor. He reported that the District fundraiser was a success with the money going to District charities, $2000 to Campaign SightFirst II, the South Plains Lions Club as the club that sold the winning ticket, and to PDG Jere Smith who won the raffle. The leadership mentored new Lions in the District. Training is now available on the website and our financial situation is very strong. One concern is membership – part of the problem has been the new International stance of putting clubs on status quo when they are behind on their dues which gives clubs only 90 days to comply. IPDG Terrell said that now is the time to turn around membership with “no where to go but up.”
IPDG Terrell reported that we ended the year with a budget surplus. In the way of disbursements, Terrell suggested that we should give the Outstanding Youth winner, Will Cherry, a $500 scholarship like we did the Diabetes and Drug Awareness winners. It was moved by Raleigh Hudzietz and seconded by Jake Bentley to give Will the scholarship. Motion passed.
It was moved by IPDG Terrell and seconded by Lion Peg White that we also give $1000 to the 2009 Convention Fund which is chaired by CC Bernie Gradel and PDG Gerald Devault.

A slide show of the teamwork learned from geese was shown. Geese flying in formation have a 71% longer flying range. Flying in formation is quicker and easier than those flying alone. We need to “honk” positive encouragement and take care of each other and emphasize that we are a family. We need the encouragement and uplift we get from Lions.
Lion Raleigh Hudzietz announced that Campaign SightFirst II goal was exceeded. The preliminary total is $203,000,000. Lubbock Redbud is a model club giving $400 per member. This is an extraordinary accomplishment.

District Treasurer Matt Melborne presented the 2008-2009 Proposed Budget. It was moved by Lion Raleigh and seconded by PDG Tom White that the Outstanding Youth, Diabetes and Drug Awareness winners receive $500 in scholarship money and the $200 entry fee be paid for them to attend the State Competition. Motion passed.
Lion Raleigh moved and Lion Ronnie Vaughn seconded to amend the motion to include passing the Proposed Budget. Motion passed.
Lion Danny Leake called our attention to the First Object of Lions International which is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. The Julien C. Hyer program which the District had just finished participating in is a prime example of that object. Lion Danny thanked the District for all the monetary contributions and being a part of sponsorship. He feels that the students left thinking “Texans are really good folks”. It was moved by Lion Peg White and seconded by Lion Raleigh that we give $1000 of last year’s budget surplus to the 2009 Julien C. Hyer fund. Motion passed.
Lion Peg gave a report on the newsletter. She needs articles and welcomes any news and pictures that are contributed. She also needs clubs to advertise to offset the cost of the newsletter. Labels are available for the clubs and will be mailed to those not in attendance.
Gov. Jene announced that Lion Raleigh Hudzietz is our new membership chair on the MERL team. Lion Raleigh spoke to us of ways to help membership. He recommended that “we need to toot our own horn” and let people know the good we are doing. Decide what you are passionate about and share that with your clubs. Use your MERL team. Lion Raleigh commended Lubbock Crossroads for their outstanding work even though they are small.
CC Bernie Gradel gave a report on the 2009 State Convention which will be in Lubbock, Texas on June 4-6. This comes to Lubbock only once every 16 years. Lion Cliff Fedler proposed donating to the Hope Lodge as a District Fundraiser. The Hope Lodge will be a place for people taking cancer treatments to stay at no cost to them. Recipients must live at least 50 miles from Lubbock. This will touch the Lions all around our District. He would like to see us pay for a suite which will cost $50,000. This fundraiser will help to unify our district. It will be the first in Texas with Houston getting one after ours. Lion Raleigh moved and Lion Lottie Smith seconded that we participate in this fundraiser. Motion passed.
DG Jene reported that the Second Cabinet meeting will be October 28th in Slaton, Texas.
The meeting was adjourned at 12 noon with all invited to the home of PDG Charlie Shannon for lunch.
