The Cal Farley organization recently dedicated a playground in memory of PDG Wayne Ward and in honor of Lion Shirley Ward.
Wayne and Shirley Ward of Levelland were supporters of Girlstown USA way before it became a part of the Cal Farley organization in 1987. Though Wayne Ward passed away in 2004, Shirley has continued their tradition of support and dedication to the organization. In appreciation of their many acts of kindness, and more than 30 years of affiliation with Girlstown USA, the park was dedicated in their honor.
Wayne was a retired postal service employee who served as District 2-T2 Governor in 1989-1990, and was an active member of the Levelland Community for 57 years. He is particularly appreciated for the years he played Santa Claus on the Girlstown USA campus.
Shirley recently told a story of a Girlstown USA teenager who was not interested in the latest toy or trendy outfit for Christmas, but rather asked Wayne as Santa to help her find her dad. "That really got Wayne choked up, " recalled Shirley.
Shirley currently operates a day care facility and stays active with her three daughters, four grandchildren, one foster son, and two foster grandchildren.
